“Sport Amazon”

“Sport Amazon” is the name of a food supplement, developed in , based on South American medicinal herbs. The supplement, developed especially for athletes, has been, in the past year and a half, the focus of experiments and initial testing conducted by Robby Shaelv (The head of the department for qualification of trainers and competitive sport instructors in Wingate and the trainer of the Israeli swimming team), and by Dr. Mark Roznovsky (the doctor of the Israeli Football Association).

Both consider it to be a supplement of unprecedented performance, which justifies scientific research. The supplement is also receiving great enthusiasm from many athletes: from the current “Mr. ”, Olympic swimmers and football players from the national team. The enthusiasm in documented, amongst others, in detailed questionnaires filled by 30 swimmers and 13 football players from the Israeli team.

The formula does not contain any hints of prohibited substances (whether be it amphetamines or anabolic hormones). This fact was confirmed by the laboratory of the University of the Medicine of Sport in Kצln, , and the test was conducted twice: both by the developer of the formula and by the Israeli Football Association.

1. Swimming

In May-June 2004, Robby Shalev began testing the product on 30 swimmers from Maccabi Kiryat Ono. First, he tested the pure “Maca” plant on its own, and after two months of “cleansing”, he began testing the combined formula: “Sport Amazon” for a number of months. The dosages varied from swimmer to swimmer. “I determined them quite arbitrarily according to body weight” he says. “Those with a higher body weight – 70 Kg and more – took 2 capsules, in the morning and at noon, those with a smaller body weight – sufficed with one capsule in the morning. In the meantime the swimmers reported their physical and mental sensations which they experienced as a result of taking the supplement. Simultaneously, I followed the changes, whilst basing them on physical tests in the water and in the gym that I conducted for the entire 4 weeks (4 weeks are a time period regarded as an “adjustment cycle” of the body to training stress), and I can definitely point at three central parameters in which the effect of the supplement stood out: 1. Improvement of strength 2. Improvement of stamina 3. Improvement of recovery process. Both in the competition simulation trainings and in the competitions themselves, the swimmers excelled more than usual, the recovery between practices was quicker and more profound, and their strength abilities were above the expected”.

At the end of the period, detailed questionnaires were distributed that examined a number of fields of effect. On a grading scale of 1-5, the supplement was awarded an average of 4.20 among the swimmers (effect on the general feeling: 4.5, recovery 4.8, improvement of strength: 4, improvement of competitive ability: 4.2, concentration at times of training and competition: 4.6) and 27 out of the 30 swimmers expressed their desire to continue and use the supplement. Robby Shalev easily explains this need: “A swimmer works between 20-24 hours a week. When the intensity of practices rises, it has an effect on all the systems of the body, including the hormonal system and the nervous system. Regular nutrition can not supply a solution for this. A person that is not an athlete and his nutrition is good, does not need such supplements, but an athlete weighing 80 Kg or more, can easily lose 6,000 calories, and regular nutritional supplements will not compensate for this. The “Sport Amazon” is the best solution I have found thus far”.

At the beginning of July, Robby Shalev left for a training camp in together with his swimmers, and there the dosage was doubled.

He compared the performances to those that the swimmers demonstrated in the previous training camp, whilst taking into account the sensations they described before him and the actual results demonstrated. “I found an interesting leap in their performance ability. I have indications from many years, and based on them I can report a significant success as a result of taking the supplement. All the players, except for two that were ill at the time, dramatically improved their results in comparison to their personal records from the period prior to taking the supplement”.

In the summer of 2005, Robby Shalev left with 3 of his best swimmers (a woman and two men) for the championship in Montrיal. For the 3 days of the competition, he instructed the two men to double their dosage and “as a result of their improved results, they received scholarships to Wingate” he says. 

2. Football

At the time that Robby Shalev and his swimmers were in Montrיal, Dr. Mark Roznovsky began examining the effect of “Sport Amazon” on the players of the national football team. Not before the football association initiated and funded a laboratory test of the products in the University of the Medicine of Sport in Kצln, Germany, to rule out the existence of any prohibited substances, whether it be “amphetamines” (prohibited accelerates) and whether it be anabolic steroids (prohibited muscle building hormones). The laboratory certificates arrived a few days before the game against , and the players immediately began taking the supplement. They managed to carry on for the entire game and reach a “tie” result. They continued to take the supplement for a number of months (2-3 capsules per day for each player), and Dr. Rosnovsky noticed a decrease in fatigue and attributes this to better use of oxygen: “It enables them to produce more effort with the use of less strength, and I also see an improvement in the condition that they are by the second half of the game”. The tie with and the victory over the Faroe Islands were achieved during this period, and the questionnaires distributed amongst 13 players, resulted in an average of 4.69 (again on a scale of 1-5). This time the questionnaires had 8 fields of reference: general feeling, recovery during and after practice, recovery after a game, improvement of strength, improvement of game ability, stamina power and level of fatigue during practice and a game, concentration during practice and a game, desire to continue using the supplement.

3. Body building

“Strict nutrition and over training are basic conditions for progress in the field of Body Building ” says Koby Ezra, who treats Avi Feldman, a personal trainers and Mr. North, who won the first place in the “Mr. Israel 2005 up to 75 Kg” contest. Avi Feldman himself attributes this achievement, or more precisely: the fact that he managed to withstand a diet, bordering a fast, and to simultaneously build a mass of muscles without collapsing – to the “Sport Amazon” capsules, which he took at the time. “I almost did not eat. It was a vicious diet, without carbohydrates and without any type of food to give me accessible and immediate energy, and at the same time I needed to train twice a day under very extensive training. I also believe that it lowered the level of lactic acid in my body and as a result decreased the muscle aches”. The follow-up data that Koby Ezra prepared during the two months preceding the competition, indicate an improvement in the general feeling of Avi Feldman and in the sense of depression (that usually accompanies difficult diets), as well as – improvement in the recovery process and less muscle ache during and after training. As to the sport achievements, there are also numeral figures:

4. Women's Basketball

Gadi Rovovsky, the physiotherapist for the women's basketball team reserve (who is also an acupuncturist) tested the effect of the supplement for six months, after receiving the approval of the doctor of the basketball association. “Except for the health aspect, meaning the fact that through these herbs, the body received a certain level of vitamins extremely necessary for athletes that are exposed to injuries in their immune system, more than necessary for the average person – I could not help but notice that the players succeeded in demonstrating greater strength during more minutes of the game in comparison to previous tournaments. There were at least two players that prior to taking the supplement suffered from fatigue and arrived at practices lacking energy, but after that their condition significantly improved”. Chen, one of the two, indeed defines herself as “fundamentally physically weak” and as “quickly tiring”. But, she says that in the tournament in which she took the “Sport Amazon”, it was much easier for her when compared to previous tournaments “although I still weighed the same and was under the same nutrition routine and the same level of iron consumption, and although this tournament was objectively very difficult: we had to take part in 6 games a day. Day after day.” At the beginning she took 2 capsules of the “Energy Maca” (based on the “Maca” plant by itself). Later she took one “Energy Maca” capsule and one “Sport Amazon” capsule. Today she makes do with one “Sport Amazon' capsule per day. The “Sport Amazon” made me alert at an exceptional level. Methods of action:

Pasuchaca is considered the vegetal species with the highest hypoglycemic effect. That is why it is recommended for treating certain types of diabetes. Its activity seems to be connected to the effect produced by the guanidine-type oral hypoglycemic agents which, unlike the sulfuryl-type hypoglycemic agents, result in a decrease in the glucose levels in diabetic animals, and when combined with insulin, they also work in serious juvenile diabetes. Similarly, it can interfere in the fusion of insulin to the plasmatic proteins, producing a free and active hormone.

This plant widens the peripheral use of glucose or increases the reception of glucose by the muscle and inhibits the increased hepatic gluconeogenesis in diabetics. It also increases the reception of insulin in its receivers. Considering that insulin has no effect for the transport of glucose in certain cells, for example cells of the tubular epithelium of the kidney, we assume  that pasuchaca prevents the re-absorption of glucose through the tubular epithelium. If such were the case, glucose concentrations larger than those presented in the physiologic conditions of diabetics would be eliminated in urine.
